Entertaining. The visuals and style is very 1930s, but the narration and the anti-communism stuff felt very 1950s to me. Not that it can't have aspects from multiple eras, but it felt a little offputting(?) to me that it seemed to want to be specifically 1930s, yet felt more like the 50s. Not that that is really a problem, just felt a little off to me. I don't know if that's a real criticism, but I liked it besides that.

KloudKat responds:

Yeah I know exactly what you mean about that. I looked up and there were smaller red scares around the time period, but yeah it doesn't really have the same impact. I was gonna make other, more time appropriate jokes, like more Great Depression and there was a joke about the Weimar republic and alluding to everyone not realising WW2 was just around the corner, but I had to cut for time. I think I got a little too attached to the Communist jokes in this one.

I really like the idea of robots in a zoo with 1930s flair. The animation was alright, and the background art didn't really feel 1930s (maybe it was the colors), but it was entertaining.

DannyBG responds:

Yeah, I was trying to replicate the water colors backgrounds of the style and was kind of figuring it out on the go.

I really like your animation style. I wish your videos were longer though, they feel like they just started and they're over. The short videos work, but I'd like to see some more extensive content in your style.

Skldude responds:

Hey man if I had the time and the money I'd be on that shit. Thanks though

Really great stuff. Your artstyle is amazing and your animation works really well with the low framerate. The only slight issue I saw was there were occasional parts where I think adding one or two more frames would help out, but it works everywhere else. Great job.

antdung responds:

Thanks for watching! I always get knocked for the frame rate during these competitions T_T need more time!!!

Fun little animation. I like your characters and sound effects. The ending scream is great. I've noticed that scream in a lot of stuff recently...

ChutneyGlaze responds:

I know! gotta love that Ty Fighter Scream!

So, when did you miss the bus?
The audio was kind of quiet and I would suggest maybe having a cleaner drawing style. With such simple designs I don't think the sketchy style really works that well with it.
I not a huge fan of these kind of videos, but I thought it was overall fine.

JustAnOrange responds:

sorry wrong file

I think the main issue I have with this is that the Policehorse appears too quickly. There isn't enough time to establish what is going on before he appears, so it took me a minute to realize what was even happening. The voices were alright, but I'm not a fan of pitched voices.

Overall this was fine. I think if you just took a little more time to establish the critters playing before they get interrupted, it would have worked a lot better.

emergencysquirrel responds:

Thank you for your response. I really appreciate the feedback. Of course the secret of comedy is .... timing... which is something I work towards always. Cheers.

Really like the colors and background art. The animation is good. I see that you attempted to have some secondary motion with the girl's hair, but it stops moving at the same time as the body. If you just let the secondary motion end in its own timing, I think your animation could look really good. A little secondary motion goes a long way.

Sage-Kro responds:

Thank you!
This was my first ever attempt at animation, so there are LOADS of mistakes haha

I really like the background art and the ship's art. The animation of the mermaid was good, but could be less stiff.

Sage-Kro responds:

Thanks!
There's so much I wanted to do with this, but I only had a week to build the character, animate, make the background, make the ship, put in the effects, record the voices, do the sound-editing, make the credits, and comp everything. I don't think I have ever worked so fast in my life lol!
I actually didn't have a title for this the entire time I was making it - whereas I planned my other film's title during pre-production, because I had time to sit and think. Two minutes until the deadline, I was sitting there, staring into After Effects while thinking "Oh geez, this needs a title or else my teacher is going to kick my buns". I decided on the first thing that came into my head. Flop. Because "she flops, and this is going to be a major flop". To my surprise, everyone in the audience laughed - thanks to that beautiful one-liner my friend cooked up on the spot.

Really nice colors and the ability to tell a story without words was well done. The only nitpick I have is that the background art could have been more detailed. Maybe have more shading or better perspective. Besides that, I thought it was well done.

Avonom responds:

Cheers Flumpy! We'll be sure to look into more detailed backgrounds in future animations. I appreciate the review.

Don't let the sludge run sour.
